Fall update! September 10, 2009

Finally – I’ve added one more class and some photos to my gallery:;I taught Migrating Geese in Coaldale, AB. I have so many more ideas – they’ll be done eventually!! I also teach a pattern called Eureka by Jackie Robinson – photos to follow.

My mom had a blood clot and various other serious health issues in the last few weeks.  We think she just felt she’d had enough of the ill health and decided to leave us on Sept 2. We will certainly miss her, but are also thankful that she enjoyed a successful and happy long life.  We’ve had a great time reminising and visiting with family and friends- I’m sure mom was listening, cause she sure would have hated to miss it all.

Classes are planned for Medicine Hat on Sept 17, 18.  I’m hoping that there are enough people to make them ” a go”!!

The Canadian Quilter is out. Be checking out all the classes for Quilt Canada in Calgary in 2010. The mind boggles – just don’t know what to choose.  It really is time to be thinking about  entries  for the juried show too.( I know – some people have been planning and quilting for months!!)

There is a great new Canadian quilting magazine on the market. It’s called Quilters Connection:  www.quiltersconnection.ca  The magazine is completely Canadian, with articles about Canadian quilters such as Pippa Moore and Dougal Ann Walker.  The featured store is even from SK – Veronica’s in Kindersley.  I highly recommend it.  I’m not sure how it is sold – I’m thinking that it may be just to quilt shops at this time.

Back to quilting! July 31, 2009

On my way back from Winnipeg – I stopped in Portage La Prairie to visit my friend Zandra Johnston.  She and her husband have recently moved from  Victoria, where she had a successful long arm quilting business.  She has ordered a new machine and will soon be ‘in business’ again!   If you live in the area and are interested  in having quilts finished – I can give you her phone #.

I’m cleaning up after renovations – so, really shouldn’t be quilting. But – there is a wonderful new pattern called Figgy Pudding, with yummy fabrics by Moda to go with it. I’m thinking I might just have to start on that- just as a break from cleaning!!

‘grandparenting again’!! July 24, 2009

I’m feeling that I’m really behind with all my quilting projects.  First, it was holidays – and then more holidays, then a bathroom reno which at present leaves us with a tub and a toilet, and finally babysitting!!

Maybe I’ll have time next week to add photos of some of my other classes. I know that guilds are planning their fall programs during the summer. Please pass my address on to anybody who is working on guild programs – or, to your favorite quilt store.

I will be teaching Eureka and New York Beauty in Medicine Hat in August.

Quilting in Cape Breton July 4, 2009

Thanks again to the members of the Ocean Waves Quilt Society of Cape Breton!!! I thoroughly enjoyed the day that I spent with these quilters in Port Hawkesbury. I taught a tessilating pattern.  Some of these quilters will be making table centers, other runners or candle matts;  It was a versatile pattern.  I hope to meet up with them again – lots of fun (and very good food too!!)

We’re off to Cape Breton on a family holiday.  Of course, I’ll get some quilting in.  I’ll be teaching in Port Hawksbury on June 29 – I’m looking forward to it – it’s always great to meet with other quilters.

Minnesota quilt show June 12, 2009

We’ve just spent a wonderful day at the quilt show.  The quilts are awesome and  we were very supportive of the merchants!! It’s great to see how other shows are run as well as seeing all the new products and ideas.  Can’t wait to get home to start quilting again. We had a great drive yesterday – found a couple of quilt shops along the way. We’ll find a few more on the way home.  It was interesting  to drive all the way across Minnesota and see the variety of landscape. We’ll spend tomorrow seeing some more quilt exhibits and checking out the merchants to see if we’ve missed anything.

Karen Mundt and I off on our yearly quilting adventure. This year, we’re going to Duluth – we’ve heard that this is a fabulous show!! We’ve driven to Minot tonite. We saw no need to book a motel – tues nite?? Oops – wrong decision.  We do have a room in The Dakota Inn – it appears to be the hotel for oil workers- we haven’t seen a woman yet! But – $65.00 a nite. It’s all part of the adventure! Off to Duluth tomorrow – and lots of quilt shops on the way.

Lethbridge Quilt Show June 8, 2009

We just got back from Lethbridge. It was their first show of this style.  We were excited to be awarded some ribbons.  The quilts weren’t judged, but people did all vote on their three favorite quilts. These were all tabulated – and I think the 12 favorite were awarded ribbons.  Deb won two ribbons for her quilts and I won a ribbon for Cape Breton in October. I must get a photo of that quilt on my gallery.

We had a great time at the Hopscotch open house on Sat nite.  Of course, I saw lots of things to buy too. Heather and Elissa hosted a wonderful brunch on Sunday – thanks a lot to you both. Also – a big thanks to The Quilt Patch for bringing our quilts home.
