My Keepsake Quilting catalogue has just arrived – eye candy for any quilter!! I was thrilled to see on page 23, the Evening Mist Bag Pattern, designed by Hopscotch Quilt Shop. That’s one of the classes that I teach (since it’s not on my classes list as yet!!) I am taking a computer class – we just haven’t got to blogs yet!!
Happy New Year January 16, 2012
Best wishes for a wonderful 2012! In Winnipeg, it started with warm weather- bonus!!
Of course, the year started out with quilting, too. I’m working on a jacket to enter into Quilt Canada. The deadline for ‘jurying’ isn’t until mid Feb, so I’m feeling quite organized. As usual, I spend so much time thinking and planning before the actual piecing/quilting happens.
Right behind that comes a couple of commission projects. I’m making a quilt with ‘dog ribbons’ for someone. Yes, there are many examples on the internet. I’ll have a look at those once again and try to design something original. Following that, I will concentrate further on an update of classes. I’m taking a computer class and hope to learn how to update my blog. I have no problem adding new posts, but really do need to understand how to add photos and classes.
Gus has just taken down our show in the Moose Jaw Cultural Center. Thanks again, Gus. Since he lives closer, he gets to do all the heavy lifting!! We are hoping to apply for a gallery in Winnipeg.
Happy quilting in 2012! Marj
Merry Christmas! December 24, 2011
I hope everyone finished all the quilting projects that were needed for gifts!!! I did quite well, but didn’t finish a wall hanging to put over my couch. Next year will be fine!
Hope everyone has an excellent Christmas and best wishes for 2012.
Collabortion November 21, 2011
The open house for our Collaboration is over, but, I’ve had many requests for info on the show. I have discovered that you can google – Moose Jaw Cultural Centre and then refer to their most recent blog entry. There are photos of our show, for those of you who live too far away!
Collaboration Show November 15, 2011
Thanks so much to the many people who attended our ‘Collaboration’ show in Moose Jaw. I’ve needlessly stressed about this for months!! Our work was appreciated and the opening was a success! So many people to visit with, but no time, because it was just too busy! Many thanks to Gus, Kathleen and Gabriela for all the extra work- it has been greatly appreciated!
Also, many thanks to the Block Party Guild in Estevan/Torquay. I taught a paper piecing class there on Sunday. Great group of women- now I can’t wait to see the results from each of them!
Collaboration and Houston Market November 4, 2011
I’ve just returned from Quilt Market in Houston. I worked for the Hopscotch gals; they had a booth, promoting their new book as well as their other popular projects. They presented two ‘school house’ sessions to explain their books- very successful. There are so many new ideas- where can a person find the time! Moose Jaw was well represented: the Quilt Patch had a booth and gave presentations regarding their new book. They brought 2 staff members along. Deb Richards was also promoting her patterns.
The next event is the Collaboration show in Moose Jaw. The official opening is Nov 12 from 2-4, but the show will be hanging from Nov 8 to Jan 14 at the Cultural Centre art gallery. I do seem to have to save something for ‘last minute’!! I just couriered my last piece to M Jaw yesterday. Thanks so much to Gus and Rob for hanging the show on Nov 5. For anyone who hasn’t been following my blog, this is a joint show between Gus Froese (an artist and muralist) and myself. I’ve replicated some of his paintings with fabric. He has also painted on some of my quilts. Hope you enjoy the show!
Another update! October 23, 2011
Thanks so much to Stacey at Quilters Cottage. I enjoyed teaching, but, then again, I did have a wonderful group of participants! They were experienced quilters, so accomplished lots! Lots of visiting too – part of the experience.
Next week, I’ll be flying to Houston to Quilt Market – can’t wait. I will get to go to Sample Spree on Fri nite. I’m not sure how much else I will be seeing, because I’ll be working at the Hopscotch booth. That’s always lots of fun too!
My projects for our Collaboration show will go on the bus to Moose Jaw tomorrow – thrilled to have them done. I still have ideas tho – time has run out. As a reminder – open house is Sat, Nov 12 – 2-4 at the gallery in the Cultural Center. Our show will be hanging from Nov 8 to Jan 5. Hope to see lots of you there.
Quilting in MB September 28, 2011
It seems like it might be time for an update! No, unfortunately, the gallery and classes aren’t being updated! There always seems to be some reason that other things come first!! This moving sure does take more time than I ever would have thought. I think it’s worse because our place is so much smaller- I’m starting to declutter for the third time!! Also, I’m teaching 4 days at Quilters Cottage in Stonewall. In November, I’m going to Estevan.
But, on to quilting: I went to the W’peg quilt guild mtg last week- I even knew a couple of people! On Sunday, I went to a quilt show at St.Francis Xavier – it was really very good – it is closer to my house, so, I’m tempted to join their guild. To get to the W’peg guild, I have to drive 40 km! Zandra, Leila and I went to the big sale at Kick Ass Country Store – might avoid that next year! Yes, the deals were great, but most of us stood in a line up out of the door, waiting to pay (for close to an hour)!
I’ve been in Moose Jaw – visiting and getting ready for our Collaboration Show. Gus is going away for 3 weeks, so, his pieces are all done!! Myself, on the other hand, I have lots of quilting to do!! Hope to see lots of people at our opening – Nov 12 – 2-4 at the Cultural Center.
September update! September 1, 2011
A lot of the unpacking has been done! I’m sure it’s taking longer because I have to sort again. I thought I had ‘decluttered’ and got rid of things in Moose Jaw. The condo is smaller than I remembered (and there is no garage), so I’m donating again!
I do have my sewing room up and running, tho. Right now, I’m getting some pieces ready for a collaboration show that Gus Froese and I are putting together for the May Wilson gallery in Moose Jaw. The show will be hung in the gallery on Nov 5. We will have an opening ‘wine and cheese’ event on Nov 12- looking forward to seeing everyone there. I believe the show will be hanging until after Christmas.
I’m also thrilled to be teaching at the Quilters’ Cottage in Stonewall in Oct. I’ll be doing a two day class following one of Gloria Loughman’s books – love her techniques. I will also be teaching a bag designed by Hopscotch Quilts on two other dates. Watch for the newsletter.
I’m getting to see lots of the grandchildren – only for short periods – so, we’re not getting tired of each other- they’re just cute and fun!!!
Quilts for Sale? August 7, 2011
Refering to the title of this post: As I’m unpacking, I’m finding just too many quilts!! At this point, I’m thinking I should be selling some of them. Does anybody have any ideas about how/where I could accomplish that??? I don’t want to sell them at garage sale prices, so, I guess I need to find the right market.
Aside from that, I am getting things unpacked. I do have a sewing room, which is good!! I still have way to much quilting stuff tho, which I guess is bad~!!! I’m gradually finding places for it- and so far, I can see where the ‘guest bed’ is!
We’re enjoying Winnipeg. Apparantly, this has been the best weather that they’ve had for years. I’ve been here a month – I’ve yet to see clouds or rain(yes, it’s very dry) or mosquitos. I suppose the only ‘down side’ is that I’m spending too much time unpacking and not enough time quilting!!
